Founders of Beckview Studios, Chris and Kristina Jones, have been invited by the British Council to appear as Tastemakers on Selector Radio - the internationally renowned programme that shares the very best new UK music with millions of listeners around the world every week.

Broadcast across countries including Argentina, China, Mexico, Vietnam and many more, Selector Radio celebrates emerging artists and the people helping shape the UK's vibrant independent music scene.

For Chris and Kristina, the invitation was a real privilege and recognition of the work they do every day as producers, recording engineers, and studio owners, helping artists create music that deserves to be heard.

Trusted to Champion New Music

Since founding Beckview Studios on England's North Yorkshire coast, Chris and Kristina have worked with artists from across the UK and beyond, producing records, recording live performances, and helping musicians realise their creative vision.

The studio offers residential recording, analogue tape recording, production, mixing, mastering, multi-camera filming and live audio capture. Whatever the project, their focus is always the same: helping artists create music they're proud to share with the world.

Alongside their commercial studio work, Chris and Kristina have always believed that part of their role is championing great independent artists. Whether recommending music to listeners, introducing artists to new audiences or helping musicians bring ambitious ideas to life in the studio, supporting original music has always been central to Beckview Studios.

That commitment is what made this invitation from Selector Radio so special.

Our Tastemaker Tip

When Selector Radio invited Chris and Kristina to contribute a Tastemaker Tip, they were asked to recommend an artist they felt deserved to be heard by a global audience.

Their choice was William Cline Bailey and his track London Nights, recorded at Beckview Studios.

London-born and of Sierra Leonean heritage, William is now based in the North of England and has become a familiar figure within the region's jazz scene. Alongside writing and performing his own music, he presents a regular jazz programme on Radio Scarborough, has been featured on Jazz FM, and has performed in Sierra Leone, including at the Ballanta Academy of Music.

Chris and Kristina have had the privilege of working alongside William across several recording projects at Beckview Studios. Chris has produced and engineered his albums, while the studio has brought together exceptional session musicians to help realise William's musical vision, always with the songs at the centre of the process.

When Selector Radio invited them to recommend an artist, William was a natural choice. His London roots, Sierra Leonean heritage and longstanding contribution to the UK's jazz scene, both as a performer and broadcaster, made him an artist whose music and story they were proud to share with Selector's international audience.

Summing up why William was their choice, Kristina says during the programme:

"This is independent British music made far from the traditional industry centres, but with a story and a sound that travels much further."
