Today, 1st May, marks the launch of the very first episode of North Sea Soundcheck – a vibrant new music show and podcast for the Yorkshire Coast

This isn't just any podcast; it's a brilliant collaboration that's been brewing behind the scenes for some time. We've teamed up with our fantastic friends at Yorkshire Coast Gigs (YCG), a passionate, grassroots-powered Community Interest Company that has been supporting local music since 2014. Both Beckview Studios and YCG had been thinking about creating something like this, and joining forces was a clear choice.

So, what can you expect from North Sea Soundcheck? It's a dynamic platform for music lovers and artists, featuring:

• Live interviews with local and touring musicians.

• Scene news, gig guides, and festival updates.

• Special features from grassroots creatives.

• All filmed and recorded right here in our live room at Beckview Studios.

The show is expertly co-hosted by Kath from Yorkshire Coast Gigs and Beth Pilling, who you might recognise from previous livestreamed 'Lounge' interviews, with additional insights from our Studio Manager, Kristina.

What's in the Debut Episode?

We are genuinely excited for you to check out this first episode! It's packed with incredible talent and essential updates from the Yorkshire Coast scene. In this debut, you'll see and hear:

• Bridlington-based music promoter Alex Verda, who talks about his work organising gigs and events that help keep Brid's music scene thriving, including his involvement with Metalines Studios and The Sunday Sessions

• Rising Scarborough artist Em Louise, who performs live and reflects on her journey so fa

• Our Wordsmith in the Mix segment features acclaimed poet Charlotte Oliver. Charlotte discusses her involvement in Big Ideas by the Sea and Scarborough Fair, her love of music-infused poetry, and performs her original poem, My Friend Prince.

• A spotlight on key events for May 2025, including Raven’s 20th anniversary show, Filey Folk Festival, and The Lounge, Live at Beckview Studios

  
  

• We close the show with a live session and chat from Reverie, described as a Scarborough “supergroup”. They are a brand-new originals band featuring some familiar faces from the local scene.
